Munyaradzi Gwatidzo, CEO of Astro Mobile, received the award for Outstanding Mature Business on Thursday, November 6 at the Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship (AAE) in Marrakech, Morocco. Leading a successful and well-established mobile devices company out of Zimbabwe, Munyaradzi has made significant inroads into the region. While Astro Mobile’s core business is mobile devices, it purchased a plant and plans to move into tech appliances and services. Astro Mobile will include tablets, televisions, and even refrigerators in its offerings, dipping into the emerging ‘internet of things’ market.
Fresh off the win at the AAE, Astro Mobile is launching two new mobile devices, one aimed at entry-level consumers in the smartphone market, and the other to cater to a higher-end consumer market. It also recently inked distribution deals with Airtel and MTN. Challenging strong competitors, including Huawei and Xiaomi, Astro Mobile proves that African companies can have a global impact.
Congratulations to Munyaradzi Gwatidzo on your win at AAE2015!
