The moment we’ve been waiting for is here—the 2015 class of ALN Ventures entrepreneurs has arrived! They are with the ALN team in Johannesburg and Cape Town for two weeks, participating in an intensive training that will cover everything that will help their businesses reach their full potential and scale across Africa.
The group arrived in Joburg over the weekend, and participated in a kick-off dinner with ALN co-founders Fred Swaniker and Acha Leke. Their advice to the entrepreneurs? Shoot high—or, as Fred put it, “Businesses in Africa need to stop aiming for mediocre.”
On Monday, the group reviewed their goals for the two-week program:
- Connecting with and learning from the stories of leading figures in African entrepreneurship and business
- Forming a plan for their journey with the ALN Ventures program over the next 8 months
- Building a cohort within the class and developing a support network
The interactive trainings began on Monday, with a session on “Product and Problem” with teams from SweepSouth and ALU. On Tuesday, the group participated in a communications and public speaking workshop led by McKinsey & Company, followed by a lunch with South African entrepreneurial icon, Dr. Richard Maponya.
This is just the beginning! We have a lot in store for them over the next two weeks, including many more sessions with business leaders and special guests from across Africa. Stay tuned to learn more about what the class is doing, and be sure to follow all of the latest updates on Twitter: #ALNV2015.
