The moment is here: we are proud to announce the winners of the 2014 Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship! The Gala Dinner was a night of glamour, bliss, and celebration of African entrepreneurs who are building prosperity and jobs for the continent. Without further ado, the winners are:

Transformational Business Award: Choppies (Botswana), a grocery and general merchandise retailer and the largest retailer in Botswana. It has over 100 stores in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

Outstanding Mature Business Award: OSTEC (Ghana), a leading IT infrastructure services provider with a presence in several West African countries.

Outstanding Small and Growing Business Award: Trust Industries (Rwanda), a manufacturer, supplier, and exporter of paper products, detergents, and cosmetics.

Outstanding Social Entrepreneur Award: BanaPads (Uganda), which manufactures affordable, eco-friendly sanitary pads by converting banana stems, an abundant and free organic waste, into highly absorbent paper.

Mr. Gervais Djondo of Togo, Founder of Ecobank and Asky Airlines, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Djondo has dedicated his career to building pan-African businesses, and it was an honor to have him at the Gala with us.

For the first time, we had a People’s Choice Award as well! We invited our Facebook fans, Twitter followers, and anyone interested in entrepreneurship in Africa to cast their vote. Turnout was great and the race was a close one! The People’s Choice Award winners are Choppies of Botswana (Transformational), Mxit of South Africa (Mature), Khaas Logistics of South Africa (Growing), and Shining Hope for Communities of Kenya (Social Entrepreneur).

Also for the first time, we collaborated with Inkomoko Business Development and the African Entrepreneur Collective to present the Outstanding Rwandan Entrepreneur Award. The winner was Clement Uwajeneza of AXiS, a company that develops and implements web and mobile applications and solutions in Rwanda.

The evening was a red carpet event featuring world-class entertainment from multi-award winning Don Jazzy and the Maven Records Crew. Guests, dressed in their formal and traditional attire, included dignitaries from across Africa, ALN members and sponsors, and Rwandan government partners.

Many thanks to all who came to the Gala – we hope you enjoyed as much as we did!
